Need to know the titles / artists of two recent (still get airplay on
stations like The Beat in Los Angeles) REGGAE / hop hoppy songs.

1) has refrains and/or lyrics from "Fiddler on the Roof". (I THINK a
woman may say "if I were a rich girl... yeidel deidle deidle...
(etc)")
2) relatively fast song, can't make out ANY words (may not be in
English?!), except chorus ends with a guy saying something that sounds
like "baccalamoe"

Good luck... and thanks!

Your first song is called "If I were a rich girl" by "Mouie and
Louchi Lo"

As for your second request... I'm going to need something more to go
on. Do you know anything more about the song (other than ends with a
guy saying something that sounds like "baccalamoe".

Search terms:

+reggae +"if I were a rich girl"
Then verified the results found by searching on the artist +"Mouie and
Louchi Lo"
Finally I listened to the song and indeed it had the fiddler on the
roof exerpts in it.

Let me know if you can come up with anything else on that other song.

Resolutionman,

Thanks for the Fiddler one.

As for the other one, there are really just 1 or 2 reggae songs that
get any airplay on Power 106 (power106.fm) and 100.3 The Beat
(thebeatla.com). A call/email to the station would probably get the
answer .... ?

Thanks, uc

Got 1 song out of 2. I was able to get the second one by calling the
radio station I mentioned in the Query and telling them exactly what I
wrote.

I e-mailed both of the stations the day you asked me to but I did not
get a response from either. I don't know where to go from here as I
cannot tell what song you're looking for by the little bit of
information you have given.

Do you have anything else to go on?

Hi Res,

The song is Gimmie the Light by Sean Paul. I called The Beat and they
immediately recognized it -- it's the only Dancehall/Reggae song they
play.

The lyric is, in fact, "Cause I'm inna di vibe and I got my dough!
Buss anotha bokkle a moe," (according to lyrics found on a Google
search).

What a 'bokkla a moe' is, I haven't the faintest idea. :) Thx, uc

I'm glad you found the song you were looking for. I was unable to
call the radio station (long distance) for a $3 question and neither
station responded to my e-mail request. I wish I could have found
both of them for you... maybe next time. :)

I'm going to check out "Gimmie the Light" as soon as I finish here...
I'm a bit of a reggae fan myself. About two months ago I visited "Bob
Marley - A Tribute To Freedom" which is a bar in Orlando dedicated to
"Bob"... very cool!
