What music publisher or distributer currently stocks the vocal group
arrangement that Six Hits and a Miss sang in 1943 of Cole Porters
"You'd be so nice to come home to"

Hi Jazzsinger,

I take it you want the specific arrangement that was performed by Six
Hits and a Miss.

Do you have any way to confirm the name of the arranger? I have
located scores arranged by Roger Holmes and George Stone, but the only
commentary I can find is as follows:

"George's outstanding chart is well-paced and a pleasure to perform"
"Roger's medium tempo chart is a swinger that goes together easily"

Hello Jazzsinger,

I noticed that your search was about to come to a close, and I wanted
to at least give you a shot at finding your song. The song was added
to a compilation record and released under the name "From the Vaults,
Vol. 1: The Birth of a Label 1942-1943". Want to take a quick listen
to refresh your memory? Please click on the link below and have a free
listen to the sample. It's only 30 seconds but sounds great :

Yahoo Shopping - Click on track #15
http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1921405111

Yahoo resells the CD through merchant partner sites at the link above,
but you can also go directly to their sites yourself :

Barnes and Noble Stock # : 25542
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=2XQY2C8CRI&ean=724352554225
Cost : $13.49

CDNOW Stock # : 1237027

Cost : $16.97

Tower Records Stock # : 25542
http://www.towerrecords.com/product.asp?pfid=1872135&cc=USD
Cost : $14.99

If it is for other than home use ( ex - background music for a movie )
you are seeking , you can contact Capitol Records via their website
at:
http://www.hollywoodandvine.com

Walmart is also an authorized distributor for Capitol Records, but I
had no luck at their website. You may be able to find it at your local
Walmart store.

You may even be able to find a lower price now that we have found the
track, and the album it resides on. Use a shopping comparison site
such as MySimon.

How I found the answer (search terms used):
" "Six Hits" and a Miss "so nice to come home" ":

I hope you enjoy the CD! It was great to hear the sample and I may
just get it for myself as well -

I was just up doing my last rounds - and started thinking about this
again. If you are looking for the sheet music "arrangement" then I
really misunderstood the question to some degree.

Please clarify and I'll do my best to get you an appropriate answer.

Thank you

Hello jazzsinger -

I should have caught that sooner. Please excuse my uncommon haste and
excitement in answering your question. I too am a musician - a
guitarist of 12+ years, and I let my experience in this field misguide
me.

As I stated in my answer clarification - I would still find you an
appropriate answer to your question when asked for clarification, so
here is what I came up with:

Excerpt taken from Yahoo Shopping Compilation
http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1921405111&clink=dmmu.artist

"...compiles 25 of the earliest sides issued by the label's collective
brain trust: songwriters Buddy DeSylva, Johnny Mercer, and record shop
proprietor Glenn Wallichs."

As you can see this is the same album I referred you to in my first
answer. Had I not gotten so excited, I would have read this in depth
to discover that all the songs on the album are composed with/by one
of the two men listed above ( and below) :

Johnny Mercer
Buddy DeSylva

The site excerpt also mentions that Capitol records gained sucess
under it's name brand using songs that were from movies. This song
appeared in the movie "Something to Shout About", released in 1943,
amazingly the same year as the song was sung by Six Hits and a Miss.
We know that the song was written by Cole Porter, but we also know
that one of the guys up top had to of composed this version for
Capital Records - thus allowing them to release the compilation under
thier record label name.

This link confirms Cole Porter Covers by Mercer
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=Bvx6ibk09hakn

This confirms his invlovement with vocal arrangements on the same
album
http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1927162368&clink=dmmu.artist&a=wv

He also did vocals on some of Coles works
http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1921624308&clink=dmmu.artist//ctx=id:1921624308&ft=&subpage=credits

I was unable to find the vocal arrangement as done on the album by Six
Hits & A Miss, but at least we know he was involved to a great length,
almost certainly composing this version.

I will be calling Capitol Records on Monday - October 21st, to get you
a definitive answer, and help you track down this composition.

Thank you -

Well, it seems Capitol Records is rather busy :-). I will try
employing a few other contact methods to see what I can come up with
for you.

Thanks again -
