There are a number of ways to evaluate a price for a domain name. Below are some questions that you should ask and will give you an indication of its value: - How many words are in the domain? Is it short or long? A shorter domain name will be worth more. - Are the words spelled correctly? Is there any slang? Slang words or misspellings of domains are not highly valued. - Is the domain name specific to a company or covering a general area? Much of this depends on the domain name. If it is specific to a company and the company has brand recognition, it could be highly priced. If the domain is general and covers a large area, it could also be greater in demand. - Is the domain easy to remember? Any domain that is easy to remember is often regarded highly. - Does the domain describe the content of the site? If the content is related to the domain name it will have a higher click rate. - What is the extension (.com, .org, .net)? The extension is one of the most important factors as more people are familiar with .com then .net or .org. URLbuyers.com Valuation Page http://www.urlbuyers.com/valuation.cfm Easy Space.com Domain Appraisal Page http://www.easyspace.com/services/domappraisal.html A good site for the aforementioned evaluation principles is domainvalues.com. They provide good examples and take you step-by-step through the process. Domainvalues.com http://www.domainvalues.com/valueguide.htm Lastly, try finding similar or equivalent names on appraisal or broker domain sites. Appraisal domain companies help individuals price their domain at market value. Brokerage domain companies, on the other hand, act as intermediaries between domain sellers and domain buyers and often have a tight relationship with the business world. Both will typically list domain names and how much they cost. Here are two categories that will help you on your search: Google Computers > Internet > Domain Names > For Sale or Auction > Appraisal http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/For_Sale_or_Auction/Appraisal/?tc=1 Yahoo! Does the domain receive type-in traffic? Meaning is it a common name that people would type into their browser to see what's there like homes.com. If it's receiving a great deal of type in traffic it could have a tremendous value. |

Domain names will soon become - in a way - like the 1800 numbers, they are just another way of communicating, they should not be paid for in the three digits, exception: Google.com et cetera that are known or could become known truly "World Wide" Web and in those the sky is the limit. |
