Question ID: 66428
I need to find a content provider which could provide data & articles
of New York City Night Life for my website.
For example I would like to display new events in New York City (such
as opening of a new night club or restaurant).
Also I would like to have database of New York City Night Clubs /
Restaurants with description and address.
Does anyone know where can I get data like that, without stealing them
from a different website?

Hi! Thanks for visiting us. When you mean content provider, the data
and articles must be found on your website by the viewer or its ok to
just provide a link from your website? Just let me know.

Thanks for interest in my question.

All data must be visible on my website, there should NOT BE ANY LINK
to the origin of the data. (However there could be just a small
copyright notice and a link on the bottom of my page.)

For example I would like to buy a database of New York City Night
Clubs/Restaurants with descriptions & ratings.

Hi Bobie,

Have you thought of contacting any of the sites with extensive content
and asking them if you could host their content in exchange for them
running their ad?

Take a look at Frommer's New York City Nightlife page
http://www.frommers.com/destinations/indexnight.cfm?directory=newyorkcity&destID=21&MH=1000&order=night_life_name&order_type=NULL
(or go to http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newyorkcity/ and click
on 'nightlife')

Then go the their 'partner with us' page
http://www.frommers.com/contact_us/
Ask them if they syndicate their content. The worst they can do is
say, 'no.'

You might also consider joining the Applause-Tickets affiliate program
http://www.applause-tickets.com/affiliate.asp
Often, affiliate programs will give you the rights to use part of
their content on your site. Ask their affiliate managers about this.

And finally, did you know about a really nifty syndication tool?
Will Bontrager's Master Syndicator is so simple to use.
http://willmaster.com/master/syndicator/
If you find a site with content you like, or someone here has New York
content on their site, you could convince them (or share the small
cost of the tool) to syndicate their content so it appears on a page
on your site.

You could either pay them or give them the opportunity to include
their ads within the content they provide.

Just some thoughts. If you like, I can try to ask Will if he knows
whether any of his customers have a New York site?

Best wishes,

Your TaxMama-ga

Greetings! I searched for specific free content providers for New York
entertainment but could locate none. However, I suggest you contact
some existing New York entertainment web sites (and entertainment
writers) and request permission to reprint their articles.

Many times writers are more than happy to allow their material to be
used on a web site as long as they are credited - this gives them
exposure for their craft. I suggest you contact some of the specific
writers of articles you see and ask if they would be interested in
doing a weekly column for you. You can put a Help Wanted ad on some
writer's sites calling for entertainment writers in Manhattan (many of
these ads are free - writers love to write). A few writers might
enjoy hosting their own columns on your site for free.

Hope this helps and good luck!

There are also plenty of us writers who like to get paid for our work!
Perhaps a place such as http://www.elance.com or http://www.guru.com
(sites for hiring freelance workers) might be worth checking out.
