Would it have to be from a specific country, or would any country do as long as they ship abroad? |

Could I make a suggestion? Unless you intend to take the hardness points into the field, where you might want something you can fit into your shirt pocket, ditch the points and go for a selection of pure minerals assembled specifically for the purpose. The collection costs ten bucks at Wards Scientific (in the USA): http://www.wardsci.com/EC//products/catalog/?categoryID=7641 A good set of hardness points (2 to 9, steel) costs $49 at the same place: http://www.wardsci.com/EC//products/catalog/?categoryID=11768 A tip: when you use points for hardness testing, always go from hard to soft - otherwise you will wear the points out in no time. Another tip: if you really do not need high accuracy, A fingernail is 2½; a penny is 3; a knife blade is 5½ (same as a piece of glass), and a steel file is 6½. Get yourself a piece of quartz (7) and feldspar (6) that you can literally pick up off the street anywhere, and you are pretty well in business. Cheers, Blanketpower |
