Hello. The following data comes from the report, "The Housing Gap: A Political Analysis of American Voters by Housing Tenure" by Howard Ernst, University of Virginia, December 15, 1999. The document is available on the web site goodpolitics.org and consists of three parts (all are in PDF format and require the Adobe Acrobat reader) http://www.goodpolitics.org/downloads/pub_housing_1.pdf http://www.goodpolitics.org/downloads/pub_housing_2.pdf http://www.goodpolitics.org/downloads/pub_housing_3.pdf American Voters: Partisan Composition for Each General Housing Type (Owners & Renters) Owners Republicans 38% Democrats 39% Independents 23% Renters Republicans 23% Democrats 43% Independents 34% (from figure 11.1 on page 17 of Ernst's report). The report has quite a bit of interesting data on the connection between housing and political behavior and preferences. For example, there is a strong relationship between housing status and political ideology: Owners: Liberal 17% Moderate 41% Conservative 42% Renters: Liberal 36% Moderate 38% Conservative 26% (from figure 15.1 on page 26 of Ernst's report) search strategy: "republicans own homes" I hope this helps. |
