Question ID: 66886
Where can I get a free list of all the businesses for a given state
including their addresses, phone numbers and category? I'd like for
this data to be available in one download (rather than searching
through page after page of superpages.com data).

Hello awhobbes-ga

are you interested in data for a specific state (in which case it
would help if you could specify which state) or all the states of the
Union ?

Thanks
Silviares

Hi Silviares,
I'm really interested in every state in the Union. What is vital is
that I get three things: 1) the business name, 2) the category (such
as SIC code) and 3) a unique identifier-- such as either the phone
number or the full address.
Thanks for your efforts!

Hi awhobbes-ga

I spent some time searching and I do not think that the information
you seek can be found for free.
I found a couple of states (Vermont, Florida) that offer downloadable
corporation records, you can find them at
http://www.sec.state.vt.us/corps/corp.htm
http://www.sunbiz.org/corpweb/inquiry/cor_downld.html
but I am not even sure that this is what you seek.
If this is what you are looking for I have seen that the "Secretary of
State" website of the various States all have some kind of listings,
often in the form or a searcheable databases, for example in the case
of Alabama
http://www.sos.state.al.us/sosinfo/inquiry.cfm?area=Corporations
Maybe it's worth contacting the Secretary of State and see if they can
provide you with the list maybe for a modic fee.
The secretary of State or Arkansas in fact sells the list
https://www.state.ar.us/sos/special/index.php

Since finding the list for free seems impossible
maybe you can decide on an amount you would be willing to spend for
the list

Greetings! Because new businesses open and old businesses close each
day, I believe a researcher will have difficulties in locating one
database with all US businesses listed. You might consider asking a
series of questions related to each state (or types of businesses you
are looking for), though even that may be difficult for a researcher
to locate (and take an extraordnary amount of time).

You may want to begin by contacting all US Chambers of Commerce but
not all businesses belong to those. However, it would be a good
starting point for you:

US Chamber of Commerce

Good luck in your quest.

Hello,

All of the US businesses are (supposed to be)listed in the
www.thomasregister.com But I think you didn't want a result like this,
because a search here would result in pages & pages of adresses. I
think you can send them a question and they will return you the
adresses in a printed list or via e-mail. Anyway, I think this is the
place where you will find the most adresses.
I hope this helps you out, if this is your answer, I 'll be happy to
repost it.
greetings,
Cubist
