I have a strange situation going on....in some HTML emails that I receive the graphics don't show; there is a red 'X' in place of them. But if I forward the email to myself, they show up. What is going on? I have Windows 98 and Outlook 2000, and I've already tried "Detect and Repair" in Outlook. Basically, previous to this my IE6 was hanging and acting funny, so I deleted the Temp folder files and Temporary Internet Files hoping to fix it; no luck. Then I reinstalled IE6; no luck. Finally I went back to IE5 and it's ok. But then this graphics thing started happening. Please help. Thank you. Ed | |

Rico, Ed -- I have almost the identical setup (Win98, Outlook Express 2000) and tried moving to IE6. The result was the same. I tried working through Tools/Options setups, anticipating a problem with Javascript or ActiveX controls. Finally I went back to IE5. WARNING: Ed, when you go back, MAKE SURE that Microsoft security patches are reinstalled. I had a nasty incident of the Klez virus because I didn't take that last step. Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

Ain't technology grand? Here's what I've been able to glean from the Web, Ed. You get it as a comment since I can't test under Windows 98 (I'm at XP and am *not* going back :-)) From http://www.news24.com/News24/Technology/Webwise/0,3362,2-13-204_1093392,00.html Outlook been behaving oddly recently? Maybe since you've installed Internet Explorer 6? Hmmm... If Outlook truncates your HTML e-mail, a corrupted system file - MLANG.DLL - is probably to blame. The beta version of IE6 caused HTML pages and HTML e-mail to sometimes display as blank pages. If that beta DLL file wasn't overwritten when you installed the final version of IE6, you'll experience the page truncations. Solution: Win 98 users must run System File Checker and extract the MLANG.DLL file from the Win 98 CD. I'll keep my fingers crossed that that works for you rico |
