Hello

I contacted several companies, so that i could make sure they would be
able to provide you with what you are looking for and found each of
the follwing very helpful and obliging.

This company will make items and accessories to order and i have
spoken with them briefly regarding the request. They would need of
course photographs and measurements of the gates along with the
weights and would then be able to make them to order.

I spoke to Mr Woods and he gave me his email address, as
Johnwoods189@aol.com. He actually has some stainless steel hinges in
stock at the moment and has the facilities to make more to order.

From my research it would seem unwise to try and buy them off the peg,
since the weight of wrought iron gates or steel gates is a factor that
has to be taken into account when deciding how many hinges would be
needed and what thickness and strength they would need to be.

For each gate, it is more adviseable that the hinges and accessories
are made to order.

another firm that does one off fabrications is

http://www.sandofabrications.co.uk

I hope this Helps.

the gates are not wrought iron but wood, i also need accessories as well.

thanks

The three companies i have listed are all able to make stainless steel
hinges. The fact that the gates are made of wood rather than metal
means that the gates will probably be lighter and therefore the
thickness and strength of the hinges will not need to be as intense as
they would for a metal gate.

As far as accessories go, if you are talking of latches for the gate
or handles, they can also make them to order. The reason i have
selected these particular companies is that they offer "one off's"
whereas a lot of companies in this field supply to bulk order.
So even if the "accessories" are not in fact latches or hinges, they
will be able to supply you with what you want once you provide them
with the specifications of what you want.

I hope this clarification is satisfactory, but please do not hesitate
to contact me if you require further information.

The first site you gave me - have done a search on the site for
stainless - nothing found, the second site link does not work, the
third site, the person who answered the phone said that they are not
interested in doing hinges for one gate. Do you have the phone number
for JohnWoods?

Clarification of Answer by johnny_phoenix-ga on 26 Sep 2002 05:01 PDT
John Woods' telephone number is 01244 322 473 his fax no. is 01244 340
140.

As far as the others are concerned, i rang them yesterday specifically
because they advertise as doing "one off" works for people and they
said that do indeed do one off thing s like hinges, brackets, etc.

However, if it assists, the list i was working from is

http://search.yell.com/search/DoSearch?screen=VAL&state=AMB&companyName=&businessType=STAINLESS+STEEL+METAL+WORKERS&location=&Searchbutton=Search

and there are six pages of companies that specialise in stainless
steel products. There is a description under most of the companies and
some offer "one off fabrications".

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further clarification.
Reason this answer was rejected by holiday-ga:
Some one is working on this question but have sent me the wrong answer
twice
- ie. I asked to find where I can buy Stainless steel outdoor gate
hardware
in the UK - all I have back are lists of Ironmongers who also offer
some
stainless steel items, none of them for outdoor gates - I could have
found
the same sites doing a simple search with google, so what exactly am I
paying
for here? The respondent hasn't even taken the time to browse/search
each
site for the items requested. The phone number that was provided after
my second comment - call it yourself and ask for stainless steel gate
hinges - they do not do them. Please refund my card.

Hi holiday-ga,

The only stainless steel gate hardware that I have been able to find
in the UK, is custom made by an artisan. I include the information
here for you, as a comment.
