I'm wondering what movie the following Steve Buscemi "quote" (i.e. this is from memory, but you should get the idea) is from and, preferably, who he's talking to. Essentially, it's a conversation he's having with someone about whether "something" the other guy has is good or not. In the following dialog, realize that the word shin is a substitute for a four letter word that most people would consider a swear word.... Someone: So what do you think of this shin? (completely made up - I have no idea what leads into this) SB: This shin is shin Someone: Do you mean good shin or bad shin? SB: It's shin shin Someon: You mean it's good? SB: No, this shin isn't worth shin. You could get killed on the street for selling this. This sound clip was sampled in a Herbaliser song in the last little while, and I know (think?) I've seen the movie, but I'll be damned if I can remember which one it was. IMDB/Google hunting hasn't helped me (by all means, have fun searching for "shin is shin" ;) ), so I'm hoping someone that has seen the movie will notice this. I strongly suspect it's going to be something obvious like Reservoir Dogs, but I'm tired of wondering. Search strategy (just because I'm curious) would be appreciated. If you just know it off the top of your head, *try* and find it on the web! Thanks! |

I know I have heard this before too. It's killing me. I don't have an answer, but here is what I can tell you: This is NOT from the following movies: Reservoir Dogs, Barton Fink, Big Lebowski, Escape from LA, The Wedding Singer, Con Air, Twenty Bucks, Monsters Inc, Fargo, Pulp Fiction, Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, Big Daddy, Armageddon, Billy Madison, or The Hudsucker Proxy. I went to www.moviecentre.net and searched scripts of all those movies (es, even Monsters Inc). Are we certain its Steve Buscemi? Any idea who the Other Person is ?? |

A-HA So - it appears this is not Buscemi after all. According to two other posts I found in Google Groups - this is Gregory Hines and an unidentified 'other person' - from the movie Running Scared See these links: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&safe=off&threadm=8rvfcl%249lc%241%40nnrp1.deja.com&rnum=2&prev=/groups%3Fq%3D%2B%2522this%2Bshit%2Bis%2Bshit%2522%2Bmovie%2Bquote%26hl%3Den% http://groups.google.com/groups?q=+%22this+shit+is+shit%22+movie+quote&start=10&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&safe=off&selm=4ttas0%242jd%40force.stwing.upenn.edu&rnum=11 |

edrox, you, uh...rock! I downloaded the Herbaliser track and listened to it several times and could almost see the scene in my head, but couldn't quite grasp it - I was checking in to see if I could revise the subject to remove Steve Buscemi and throw people off when I noticed your second comment. Of course now it makes perfect sense - the problem was that it was too obvious. I *love* Running Scared and watched it an embarassing amount of times (kind of in the same category as Fletch), but obviously not in the last 10 years or so. Waiting for the DVD apparently... You're going to think I'm kidding, but it's actually a surprisingly entertaining movie. A scene that *does* stick in my head is Joe Pantoliano in the back of the police car on their radio saying "Calling all cars, calling all cars, martians landing on [name I forget] avenue", followed by Billy Crystal or Gregory Hines punching him out. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you! This is obviously karma for me answering someone's question this evening with a comment. Have a great weekend! |
