I'm trying to find a central point where all the special, days, weeks,
months, festivals, community & government sponsored events, etc. (in
Australia) are listed. For example, We have a National Science Week in
Australia, and there's a special day called World Environment Day
celebrated around the world. Noone can seem to provide a comprehensive
list of these events for Australia. I need to construct a yearly plan
for 2003 and would like a simple way to locate this sory of
information.

G'day matildaroo-ga

What an excellent question, I too have wondered about where to get
this sort of listing. I think I have found what you are looking for,
at least this what my research came up with.

This site initially lists all the major days and 'week celebrations'
for 2002 but it gives a pretty good indication of what is likely to
occur for 2003.

http://www.cisa.asn.au/events/index.htm

Another site I checked that seems quite good, though with more of a
victorian bias is at

http://invest.vic.gov.au/Press+Room/Calendar+of+Events/CoverPage.htm

Although not specific to Australia the US State department has a
calender listing of useful international dates at

http://usinfo.state.gov/products/calendar/calendar.htm

UNESCO also provides a listing of the official UN type special days
like
International Mother Language Day, International Women's Day,
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination etc at

http://www.unesco.org/general/eng/infoserv/db/days.shtml

There is also a service online that has listing of a range of events
around Australia at

http://www.onlineevents.com.au/
this site also provides a way of listing/filtering by different
industries eg science, sports, fashion. It seems quite a handy site.

Well that is about the best that can be done in terms of researching
the web for the sort of information you are looking for. I'm sure this
will go some way to planning your calendar. If you need more specific
times of dates please just ask for a clarification, I may be able to
find something. In anycase as I'm in Australia too this information
and search will be useful to me also.

kind regards

I've spent some time trying to find the kind of comprehensive listing
for 2003 that you describe but no luck, I'm afraid.

You might find this site helpful:

Good luck with your yearly plan.

I doubt that there is 'one big list' of all special days, but will
keep searching. My university calendar lists lots of special days,
environment, women's etc, would a list of these (and other dates
listed on every other calendar I can find, on line and in stores) be
acceptable?
