Dear Maggott,
There are various courses in animation available in Sydney. Relatively
to the job options in the field, there is also a prospect of finding
employment (in the Sydney Fox studios, for example).
The Australian Film Television and Radio School offers a program in
animation and 3D. They have two programs - one that leads to degrees
in digital media [Graduate Diploma Film & TV (Drama) - Digital Media
<http://www.aftrs.edu.au/courses/fulltime/graddip_dig_units.html>;
Master of Arts Degree (Film & Television) (Visual Effects and
Animation) <http://www.aftrs.edu.au/courses/fulltime/ma_drama_digimed.html>
and Master of Arts Degree (Hons)(Film & Television)
<http://www.aftrs.edu.au/courses/fulltime/mahons.html>] as well as a
fulltime program in 3D animation
<http://www.aftrs.edu.au/courses/fulltime/3danimation.html>. They also
offer short courses, on these subjects, as you can see at
<http://www.aftrs.edu.au/departments/digimedia/digi_shcourse.htm>. You
can contact them at their site
<http://www.aftrs.edu.au/locations.html> .
The University of Sydney also offers a program in digital media and
animation. You can read more about this program - which leads to a
degree - in its site
<http://www.arch.usyd.edu.au/nwfa/prosp_students/postgrad/d_media.html>.
TAFE Sydney Institute offers several programs that train and teach
animation - both classical and computer animation. You can find a list
of courses in their homepage <http://www.sit.nsw.edu.au/>. This
semester they're offering a course on 3D-Studio-Max
<http://www.sit.nsw.edu.au/courseslists.php?Select=15&Cat=0>, but
because the availability of courses changes from time to time, it may
be best to contact them
<http://www.sit.nsw.edu.au/index.php?Page=15&Index=22>.
The Computer Graphic College
<http://www.cgc.com.au/courses/courses_cga.html> also offers courses
in computer graphics and animation, that lead to a diploma. They also
have courses in traditional animation. You can contact them at
<http://www.cgc.com.au/about/about_contact.html>.
An additional list of schools, that teach animation, was compiled by
the Animation World News site
<http://schools.awn.com/countrylist.php3?country=Australia>. You may
also want to consider web-based or distance learning courses, but
that's a whole different question to research.
If you're interested in computer animation, you might want to contact
Kevin G. SUFFERN <http://www-staff.it.uts.edu.au/~kevin/personal/> and
<http://www-staff.it.uts.edu.au/~kevin/index.html>, an expert from the
Technical University in the field.

My search strategy
==================
I add here my search strategy, that could probably help you to find
more results. I searched Google and Google Groups, using the same
search terms in both. Some of my search terms were simply what we're
looking for (animation courses Sydney), others contained words that
are expected to be found in articles/sites that would interest you.
For example, I searched for the the term "how to become an animator"
(in commas), assuming that a page where such instructions would be
found would be of your interest.
I hope that answer helped you. Please contact me for any
clarifications. I'd be pleased to clarify my answer before you rate
it. |
