Ambersentan is a new drug being developed for treatment of pulmonary
hypertension. I would like information about the drug and also who is
developing it.

I'm not having any luck turning up any information about a drug with
that name - what is the context in which you heard of it (ie is it
from Hong Kong, Europe, or parts other than the US, or any other
information you might have)?

The drug is in early stage of development in the United States, soon
to go into clinical trials, I believe. It is in the class of drugs
called Endothelin Receptor Antagonists. An FDA approved drug of this
class is Tracleer, produced by Actelion. Another of this class still
in clinical trials is Sitaxsentan, produced by Texas Biotech/Icos.
Ambersentan is supposedly the next generation after Sitaxsentan. I
learned of it after hearing about it at a Pulmonary Hypertension
conference in June.

There's also epoprostenol sodium (Flolan) and Remodulin and I'm also
checking on fossilized amber but maybe synarchy-ga can help you with
this first.

Also "enrasentan" from GlaxoSmithKline and something called "U-15" in
clinical trials. Do you know if this is an oral med? inhaled? subq?

Phew, finally found it; it's "ambrisentan" manufactured by Myogen
Products and is also used as an inhibiting factor for stent-induced
restenosis and for chronic renal disease. If you need additional
references as this drug relates to pulmonary hypertension, I will be
glad to locate them for you this weekend, if you will allow me.
Otherwise, another researcher should be able to pick up the clues and
give you the full scenario. Please let us know your wishes and thanks
very much for using Google Answers.

Thank you so much! Yes, that is it--sorry about the misspelling. And
you successfully found Flolan and Remodulin (UT-15), two of three
available treatments for pulmonary hypertension! Good job! This is
my first query to Google Answers, so I'm not sure if I am supposed to
close the query or what happens next, but I have enough information
for now.

No problem. The spelling of these drug names can be very tricky. I
will post this as an answer then in order to close the question,
however, I'd like to expand on my answer to make it more $10 worthy.
We researchers have our standards, you know. ;-)

Greetings lynnzs,

Here are some additional links on pulmonary hypertension and promising
treatments with several pipeline drugs. Thanks also for the extra
endothelin receptor antagonist clue. Ambrisentan was known as
originally known as "BSF208075."

I've given you a mix of biotech information but the links are mostly
weighted towards a medical perspective. Kindly let me know if I've
omitted something important.
