I received a speeding ticket in Pennsylvania, but lost it. I live in Virginia and was traveling through the state during the weekend of September 6, 2002. I lost the speeding ticket, but want to pay the fine, and avoid any further legal ramifications. How do I go about paying this fine? | |

Hello, Undoubtedly, the Pennsylvania State Police recorded your violation in a database. Therefore, if you contact them with your license number, date of violation, etc., they should be able to get the information for you. A list of PSP offices is at (http://www.psp.state.pa.us/psp/cwp/view.asp?A=2&Q=85200). While they're all probably connected to the database, it makes sense to call an office close to where you might have gotten the ticket. If you were on the Turnpike, you should try one of the Troop T stations. |

I had a simliar situation in New York. Unfortunatley, in NY, the ticket never enters a state database until the case appears before a judge, at which point i believe that you could get into further trouble.. Hopefully PA is a little more technologically advanced :) |

According to the State Police barracks at Embreeville, PA there is no way to track down your ticket without knowing at least approximately where it was issued. For instance, on a specific Interstate going is a specific direction and perhaps between two points (cities, exits, rest stops). Given that information you would then need to contact the barracks serving that area as provided in another comment. If, however, the ticket was issued by a local police officer, without knowing the municipality there is pretty much no way to track your ticket. You will, of course, get notice by mail when the ticket goes unpaid, and perhaps you'll be able to plead with the judge. So document this and and any other efforts you make to try to find/pay the ticket. Good luck. Nellie Bly |
