We are looking for the manufacturer or wholesaler of a wall bed mechanism meeting the specifications described below. We know one exists since we once owned such a mechanism and have seen them recently being sold as parts of complete beds. Specifications follow: * It works using an adjustable spring mechanism (not pistons like Hafele) that is easy to lower & raise. * It is strong enough to handle (in addition to a 100 lb+ particle board front panel) a conventional queen sized coil mattress at least 6.5" thick weighing at least 70 lbs or more (i.e., total 170-180 lbs+). Not like Hafele which is limited to a particle board front weighing 100 lbs with a special light mattress that cannot weigh more than 30 lbs (total 135 lbs max). * It is produced in Germany. It is not produced by Hafele or Sico. * It does not require bolting to the floor like many murphy bed mechanisms do. If possible we would like to have a descriptive list (enough to help us identify which one is the one we are looking) along with contacts and web pages. We do not speak German but can have someone translate German web sites for us if need be. BTW, "wallbed" in German is sometimes translated as "wandbett." |

Thanks for your comment. We hadn't seen the Selby yet but have looked at several such mechanisms. One problem I see with the Selby is it handles only 154 lbs (Queen model CAV-150)while we would like to handle at least 170 lbs. In my own research I've * Found something similar in Canada at http://www.stildesign.ca/Mechanism.html which may work. * Been told that the mechanism used by Techline at http://www.techlineusa.com/products/convert.html is reliable but don't know who makes it. That might be a solution. * Been told that the Sico mechanism works but we cannot use it because of distributor territory issues. We do have excellent experience using the particular German mechanism we are looking to find. Furthermore our cabinet supplier is in Germany. That is why I am looking for mechanisms produced in Germany. |
