Question ID: 67479
I'm interested in a company: D.B. Butler & CO Engravings Etchings and
Pictures Frames located at 601 Madison Avenue, New York, New York.
I've got an original watercolor with their paper stamp on the back.
The date might be 1925. Any help you could give would be mightily
appreciated. The watercolor belong to my great grandfather who was
the first heart specialist in NYC!

Thanks,

Cynthia

I echo tekniq-ga's question below; anything you can tell us about the
painting might be helpful.

Where exactly on the back of the painting is the label?

What specific information do you need for your answer? In other
words, what in particular do you need to know with respect to this
company?

I'm interested in a company: D.B. Butler & CO Engravings, Etchings and

got an original watercolor with their paper stamp on the back (top and
center, measures 3" high x 2 1/2" wide. The date might be circa 1925.
Any information would be greatly appappreciated. The picture belonged
to my great grandfather was the first heart specialist in New York
City!

On another tangent, my husband thinks the watercolor is Italian. It
measures 11 1/2" high x 7 1/2" wide. It looks like night with two
buildings on either side with the large gathering of people in the
center staring at an accident or celebration of some sort. The overall
hue and tone is dark blue. I can't really make out the artists
signature (bottom left) but I can glean C. Sigilala (or Sigilolo).

Anything you can tell me about the framing shop and/or the artist
would make my day!

Thank You,

Cynthia W. Devine

I have come up with some information on D.B. Butler & Co. I doubt
that the information will be worth $100 to you, but it might be worth
something.

Specifically, I found two other paintings with the label of D.B.
Butler & Co. -- one of which indicates a different address for the
company -- as well as a booklet that the company published. (I did
not find any information about "C. Sigilala".)

My suggestion would be to post a second question, at whatever value
you think would suit the information that I have; then I would provide
an answer to that. (The question could say something like, "With
reference to https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=67479
, I would like the information that justaskscott-ga has found on D.B.
Butler & Co.") Meanwhile, you can leave the current question open, in
case anyone else finds information about the artist and/or more
information on D.B. Butler & Co. (If you do think that my information
would be worth $100, then I could just post an answer here.)

How does this sound to you?

That's good to hear! So, should I provide my answer here, or would
you like to post a second question for me to answer?

I will be going away for about 10 days on Tuesday, and might not have
the opportunity to provide an answer to your question during that
time.

If you would like me to work today or early Tuesday on an answer here,
or on an answer to a separate question, please post a reply here.

Embarrassingly, I've lost part of the information that I was going to
post. The information came from an eBay item whose auction has now
been completed. I didn't realize until now that you can't search the
description of completed items, but rather the title only -- and the
information I had found was in the description, not the title. I do
remember two of the three key facts from this item -- the placement of
the label on the painting, and the name of the street on which D.B.
Butler & Co. was located at the time. But I have forgotten the street
number.

To make up for this, I'd be happy to do an hour or two of additional
searching for D.B. Butler & Co. and the artist C. Sigilala (or
Sigilolo), as part of my answer.

I notice that the time is running out on this question, so I thought I
should contact you once more. Would you like me to try to answer this
question?

Hi Brillo,

Could you possibly tell me what the oil painting you have consists of?
