Hi boudis,
Wow, a list of millionaires! Thats a tall order! Are you aware that
there were 2,100,000 high-net-worth individuals (millionaires and
greater) in the US in 2001 and 7.1 million worldwide? Thats a lot of
data. Not to mention, many of these people dont want to be found by
folks looking for free money, no matter how important the cause.
Now, that said, there are companies who have dug through at least some
of that data and compiled some of this information for you. As
easterangel mentioned, they are gladly willing to sell it to you. So,
thats the first way to obtain a list: BUY ONE.
Now, of course there is no way to confirm how accurate these lists
are, but here they are ---

*remember, in the US unsolicited faxes are illegal.
The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 ("TCPA")
http://www.junkfaxes.org/federal_law.htm
MILLIONAIRES WHO HAVE TAKEN RISKS mailing labels
http://www.surfview.com/selabels.htm
Another way to obtain a name-list is to check the publicly compiled
lists of richest people. One well-known list is Forbes. In fact,
better than millionaire, the top of the Forbes list is billionaires
FORBES RICHEST PEOPLE

FORTUNE MAGAZINE
AMERICA'S 40 RICHEST UNDER 40
http://www.fortune.com/lists/40under40/index.html
This list however is not going to give you contact information for
these individuals. As I said, they dont want to be contacted by the
public. But the lists will tell you what companies they own and you
could then reach them via those companies.
However, I dont think any of those lists are going to provide what
you need money. The fact is, most rich people do not give their
money away directly. You cant just write to them and have them mail
you a check. They are inundated every single day with requests like
yours, and would never be able to read them all, much less decide
whose requests to honor.
Instead, they set up FOUNDATIONS non-profit entities with entire
staffs who do nothing but process requests and distribute donations to
causes that the benefactor endorses. Some examples of these are:
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
http://www.gatesfoundation.org/
The Soros Foundation
http://www.soros.org/
Coca-Cola Foundation AIDS initiatives in Africa
http://www2.coca-cola.com/citizenship/africa_program.html
Foundations lists are much easier to come by than millionaire lists.
Foundations WANT to be found and WANT to give you money. Thats why
they are set up. If you have a worthy cause, then your best bet is to
apply to foundations that support causes like yours. Here are some
lists of foundations. Some are corporate and others are private. In
the end it shouldnt matter who set up the foundation. What will
matter is their eligibility requirements. You have to meet those
before they will consider

Getting Major Gifts: Grassroots Fundraising Journal Reprint

Third Edition. Entirely Revised for 2000
Responding to Put-Offs
A prospect needs to know that his or her name has not merely been
taken at random from a list of rich people, the phone book, the donors
to the symphony, etc. The prospect must know that his or her interests
have been taken into account in this request, not merely his or her
ability.

So, this should supply you with the information you need to get
suitable funding for your project. Truly, the best way to get in touch
with millionaires is not by sending them email or faxes or sending
them letters. They way to reach these people is through the private
and corporate foundations they have set up to disperse their money to
cuases they deem worthy.
If anything that Ive said is not clear, please feel free to ask for a
clarification.
Best of luck with your project.

Hi again boudis,
Im glad the Foundation information worked out for you. I see youre
working from the Forbes Richest 40 Under 40 list. As far as
reaching those individuals, again, I cant help you with their
personal addresses, but I can show you the easiest way to find the
company addresses. (Rather than go to each individual website).
Go here:
MSN- Money Central Amazon.com Corporate Profile
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/profile.asp?Symbol=AMZN
This site lists all of the public companies and their corporate
addresses. Notice that the one I have done for you is Amazon.com. On
the right-hand side of the page youll see Quick Facts and in that
box is their mailing address.
Too see a new company, type the name of the company in the search box
at the top of the page.
Here is the link to Dell Computers
MSN Money Central Dell Corporate Profile
http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/profile.asp?Symbol=dell
Down the left-hand side of the page you can see a section marked:
RESEARCH. Under that section are several subsections. COMPANY REPORT
is where you are now. (In case you click out of that page and get
lost)
Now, some of your contacts are not owners of public corporations so
will not be listed at Money Central. One way to find them is to look
for their official website. I did a search for MICHAEL JORDAN and
came up with this:
MICHAEL JORDAN OFFICIAL WEBSITE
http://www.sportsline.com/u/jordan/2001/index.html
His site shows lists of charities and sponsorships that he supports
and does offer a way to send an email to him.
So for the private individuals on your list, just search their names
and find their official websites.
The same holds true for actual teams themselves. A search for:
WASHINGTON REDSKINS CHARITY netted this:
Due to the overwhelming number of donation requests we receive, the
Redskins are only able to accept requests from non-profit, charitable
organizations located in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the
District of Columbia.
WASHINGTON REDSKINS DONATIONS
http://www.redskins.com/donations.asp
So, be creative in your searches and find out ahead of time if the
company or person you are looking for will even consider your type of
NGO. There is no point in using a shotgun approach to this project.
Different companies and individuals sponsor different types of
programs. Sending 500 letters to people who have clearly ruled out
your type of organization will be a waste of your time and theirs.
Youre better to focus on those that have already committed to
projects like yours. Then, follow their application instructions to
the letter.
Search hints:
When searching for a person or company, use quotes around their name:
Michael Jordan
When searching for a company, narrow down your search by using terms
like donation or charity or contribution or foundation in your
search. This should net you the actual page that their guidelines
appear on.
So, that should help you find the rest of your list at least those
that provide an avenue for asking for financial support. Good luck
with your project!
