Benny Gezelius ran as a candidate for his local county council
(Landstinget, http://www.lf.se/lfenglish/default.htm), representing
the party Moderata Samlingspartiet
(http://www.moderat.se/index.asp?mainid=6&subid=66).
The results for Benny Gezelius' constituency can be found at
http://www.val.se/slutresultat/04L/0402KL.html. This shows that his
party received 12,5% of the votes in this area, a decrease of 1,5%
since the last election.
According to the Swedish Election Authority's information at
http://www.val.se/utils/pdf/elections_in_Sweden.pdf, "voters may vote
for a political party, but within their choice of party the voter has
a possibility to influence the ranking order between the candidates.
By entering a mark alongside one of the candidate names, the voter may
cast a personal vote. A personal vote may only be marked for one
candidate."
The details of the personal votes for Moderata Samlingspartiet's
candidates can be found at
http://www.val.se/slutresultat/04L/0402KL-totalt.html. I have
translated the relevant information below:
"[ Sweden / Södermanlands län [county] / SECOND CONSTITUENCY / person
election ]
Moderata Samlingspartiet (M)
Totals for the party
Person No Personal votes Percentage
Lotta Egeland 1 50 7,27
Sven-Eric Huss 2 43 6,25
Mats Lönn 3 35 5,09
Benny Gezelius 4 18 2,62
Karin Wahlgren 5 11 1,60
Per Frössevi 6 7 1,01
Lars F Eriksson 7 6 0,87
Anna Einarsson 8 3 0,43
Bengt Andersson 9 2 0,29
Thomas Grandin 9 2 0,29
Kristina Ryding Norlin 11 1 0,14
Peter Modig 11 1 0,14"
The percentages add up to only 26,02%, this means that near 74%
percent of the voters did not have any particular candidate preference
(they agreed with the party's predefined candidate ranking).
I did not find any information on the web regarding which candidates
that in fact got elected, so I ended up making a telephone call to Mr
Gezelius. He told me that he indeed was re-elected.
I hope this provides you with the information you need. If not,
please feel free to ask for an answer clarification.
Search strategy:
I am a native Scandinavian and read and speak Swedish without much
difficulty. Most of the information was retrieved by browsing
http://www.val.se (thanks to larre-ga for this tip). I also looked up
Mr Gezelius' phone number in an online phone directory
(http://privatpersoner.gulasidorna.se) and called him to ask him your
questions directly. |
