I have found various details pertaining to some figure in history who
may have had a great many herbal discoveries at some period, possibly
during the 1800's, possibly earlier. I haven't found any information
on him, his birthplace, or alternate names. Basic information is
helpful, as well as any sources you've used to obtain it. I will need
verification through those sources assuming it can be found.
Information on the herbs he used for various therapies is interesting,
but I've already read most of them and therefore have more interest in
the "baron" himself.

Hello.

More common spellings of the baron's last name seem to be "Stoerck"
and "Störck."

Baron Anton von Stoerck was a very famous Austrian doctor. Born on
February 21, 1731 in Salgau (which is located in present-day Germany).
An orphan, Stoerck later studied medicine in Vienna. Stoerck
eventually became physician to Austrian empress Maria Theresia. From
the 1750s to the 1790s, Stoerck wrote extensively on the subject of
medicine, pharmocology, herbs and related therapies. Stoerck died on
February 11, 1803.

Stoerck was considered a leading medical authority of his time.
"At the beginning of the 19th century the treatise ' Practical Medical
Instructions for Field-and Country Doctors in the Austrian Countries'
by Anton von Stoerck." From a Turkish university web page:
http://www.sg.edu.tr/schueler/projekte/mosaik/html/medizin_e.htm

As you know, Stoerck is considered something of a pioneer in the world
of herbalists and homeopathic medicine. From the Homeopathic Research
Institute:
"In 1760, Anton Stoerck reported testing stramonium (datura) by
rubbing it on
the skin, inhaling the vapors of the freshly crushed leaves, and,
finally, ingesting the fresh extract."

The baron also was instrumental in founding a school for military
surgeons in Vienna. From the Catholic Encyclopedia - History of
Medicine:
"A school for military surgeons was founded at Vienna in 1775 at the
suggestion of Anton Störck (1731-1803)"
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10122a.htm

A school in Stoerck's hometown of Saulgau now bears his name. A
student's page in English desribes the school:
http://www.alfred-epple.de/school1.htm
The school also has a web page (in German):
http://www.stoerckgym.sig.schule-bw.de/800/index.htm

search strategy: baron storch, baron stoerck, baron störck, vienna,
wien

I hope this helps.
