I am sorry, but I don't believe it is practically feasible for a regular person to gain access to this information. Since Yahoo have anonymous email accounts, no personal information is necessarily available even to Yahoo. I think the header information will originate at a Yahoo mail server. Regards, |

Hi, Sorry to hear about the email you received - unfortunately, the escalation in email spamming has meant that receiving adult or other unwanted emails has become something of an inevitability. Also, because spammers are getting better and better at covering their tracks, there is no guarantee that you will be able to find the sender. You don't say very much about the content of the email. If you think someone sent the email intended only for you, then it could be wise to contact the authorities. However, it's far more likely that your email was sent to thousands, if not millions of people, and that you have simply been the victim of one of the webs more distasteful spammers, and there are many. To find out who sent the email, I suggest you download the free program Sam Spade, and read through the excellent help files included with the software on tracking the sender of an unwanted email. The program will also look at the email headers for you and give some comments on who it thinks the real sender is. Sam Spade is free and available from http://samspade.org/ssw/ As I said earlier, it will probably be very difficult for you to find the sender - especially as they appeared to use a free Yahoo account, which is easy to sign up for with false information, and then discard. Hope you find this information useful. Good luck in your search! |

If the email is of a harrassing nature, or threatening, you can contact your local law enforcement agency. Only you can judge if this is necessary. If the contect is just disturbing, and not threatening or harrassing (according to the law), you probably will not be able to find out who sent the email. Just block the address and forget it. |

if you got it from a yahoo address, most free e-mail providers will have an address that you can contact if you were harassed by thier users, most likely the account will be shut down, but still his identity will be unknown, unless you go about other methods as suggested in previous comments |

Thank you all for your information...I can see that at the end of the email there is no information that will help me...i.c. numbers, web # etc. The person is infringing on our privacy...involving at least 6 to 10 people within the family. Very disturbing, but I guess we need to put it to rest. Thank you |

ten3, You may want to contact WHOA ("Working to Help Online Abuse") for assistance to this serious problem. They have literature that you should read before requesting their help: http://www.haltabuse.org/help/index.shtml Also, The Yahoo Terms of Service states that: "upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;" It sounds like the email you received violates the Yahoo TOS. Most likely, you can have this account shut down by emailing abuse@yahoo.com, although this really does little to help the situation. Yahoo TOS: http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/ |

What really gets me is that this person has found a way to get into the computer to find all our email addresses. This is the 1st time they have contacted me but others in the family have been receiving email for almost 4 months off and on. They even send instant messages. |

For what it's worth, I found that the Yahoo people were useless in doing anything to remove a site that had my husband's name listed on an 'Assassin's Missions List'. I was very distressed and despite several emails to the webmaster and to Yahoo, they did nothing. I only ever received one response and that was an automatic one. The local authorities weren't interested either. So, I hope you have a better result than I did. Persevere and if it's getting threatening, contact either the police or a legal aid hotline and maybe they will have some ideas to help you. |

ten3... Another general guideline for dealing with this kind of spam is to avoid responding to these kinds of email in the first place. Many times such emails are sent to hundreds or thousands of "possible" addresses to bait people. If you don't respond, they don't know if the address was real. If you do respond, they've "hooked" you, and can continue to harrass you until you get a different email address. If your ISP offers multiple email accounts, you might want to do that. Given your present circumstances, I agree with andy_uk, that the Sam Spade program is worth your time & effort. |

Thank you to all of you...I shall try what uk mentioned. I also want to respond to the last comment, and that is I did not respond to whoever sent it. They truly seem to get into ones system and pull alot of info. I was just so shocked about the whole thing. I thank you all again. |
