I'm trying to get the i.Link (IEEE 1394) port working on my Sony Vaio
PCG-Z505R laptop. The laptop was certified to work with Windows 98,
but I upgraded it to Windows XP SP1. Sony provides a variety of drivers
for Windows 2000 for this laptop that work perfectly under XP.
Unfortunately, the i.Link software doesn't appear to be happy. I've
tried installing in various ways the ILINK package that can be
downloaded from Sony's support site. It fails just before installing
saying that it cannot locate C:\WINDOWS\Driver\Link\link.bat. I've
checked, and the directory exists, just nothing inside of it. I tried
extracting the driver files to see if I could just install them
manually, but the CAB files in the ILINK installer package can't be
extracted from (at least in no manner I know how). I can't find any
advice for this problem on Google. Thanks!

Are you able to extraxt the files using winzip? Winzip is able to open
.cab files, maybe this will help you..

Winzip failed on it. I think that these are a special kind of .cab
file.

I later found some documentation that indicated that this laptop just
can't support the OHCI-style i.Link/IEEE 1394 support under XP. Tough
luck for me.

When the installer runs, it may unzip itself to a temporary folder on
your hard drive. Usually that folder is:

c:\windows\temp
or
c:\temp

You might be able to find the files there after you run the installer
program.
