I am shopping for a 17" LCD/TFT computer monitor.
I have four explicit criteria:
1. Space saving, sleek design (more on this, below!)
2. Reasonable cost (under $700)
3. High quality image specs (350cd/m2, 450:1 contrast, etc)
4. A three-year warranty. Preferrably 1-pixel, but 8 is ok.
I have found a 15" monitor that balances all the above criteria:
The Samsung 152B. So, what I am looking for is a larger version
of it. Here's a picture of the 152B:

Some words about my number one criteria: SPACE SAVING DESIGN.
Most LCD monitor designers have made a major mistake, by adding a
huge unmovable, undetachable pedestal at the bottom, and huge
wide borders around the edge of the screen.
The 152B has a pedestal which folds all the way in, essentially
disappearing if you want it to (so the bottom screen border is
flush against the table). This is the key feature I'm looking
for. I'm wiling to compromise on the other criteria, if needed.
The borders around the 152b's screen are also nice and thin.
Samsung did not extend the 152B's design to any of its larger
monitors. I have spent countless hours looking through shopping
websites, product review sites, and physically walking into
stores.
As a side note, I have a suggestion for Google: It should be possible
to leave a "tip" above and beyond the amount initially bid for a question. |
