Question ID: 69868
I have spent months researching the Google page rank system. I have
used this beta a number of times for advice. I've read all the
articles on search engine optimiztion...So why am I still no where to
be found on Google when I search using my keywords? Have I been
blacklisted by Google or something, Why doesn't Googlebot like my
sites?

http://www.discountairportparking.net
http://www.valetpark.net
http://www.parkinglinks.com

Here are some steps I've taked to improve my page rank, If I am
missing something please let me know...

1. Lots of relevant content with keywords and all the other SEO stuff
your supposed to do. (I utilized WebPosition Gold's page critic...It
tells me i'm in good shape)

2. I submitted my sites to DMOZ and Yahoo (They still haven't indexed
me...Its been over 6 months)

3. I included a robot.txt file on my server.

4. I have multiple incoming links from other websites with a high page
rank (but Google claims I have none!)

5. I have posted content in newsgroups.

6. I even put a Google sticker on the bumper of my car....

What are the contents of your robots.txt file?

Thanks for the quick response but you really didn't answer my
question.

1. Why are the links that are pointing to my site not being listed?

2. My site www.valetpark.net is the only site dedicated to valet
parking...We offer a complete directory of valet services, not to
mention the fact that we offer consumer tips, industry links, and
online reservations (NATIONWIDE) . How much more content do I need?
Valet parking is not exactly a subject you can write a book on.

Google is known for their accurate search results....Am I right? Well
test this by searching for "valet parking" in Google. What do you see?

1 . Providence Airport Valet Parking, Providence TF Green Airport ...
Check out this site...Will this help the person that is searching for
valet parking? I see an airport parking lot at one airport in Rhode
Island...Shouldnt this site be listed under "Airport parking at TF
Green..."?????

2. AviStar's convenient airport valet parking centers are the best ...
Since when is valet parking mean "airport parking"???? Again this site
has nothing to do with valet parking...This will offer no help to the
person searching for a valet parking ..

3. Valet Parking SA - [ Translate this page ]
This one is my favorite....How in the heck can Google list this site
#3 under valet parking ....A website in spanish???? Not even located
in the United States. Why not list Russian valet parking companys,
Chinese, German...

As you can see I am frustated and a little disapointed in Google. I
think you understand what I am getting at...Obviously I am biased
because i want my site to rank better but think about it... If any
intelligent, objective person analized your search results for "valet
parking" They would say call it crap...Sorry but i love Google but you
guys are wrong on this one...I understand that indexing is automated
but how can you justify my site valetpark.net not being listed
anywhere in the first 100 pages under the valet parking keyword
search?

Nothings perfect but this makes about as much sense as the Pentagon
paying thousands of dollars for a bolt. What do you think?

Hello Again, You mentioned something about my robot txt files not
having content- What are you talking about?

Also why are incoming links not shown when I search for back backward
links? (i.e http://www.airportvalet.com, http://www.parkingtoday.com,
ect...)

Hi tman25,
Several years ago, the meta keyword tag was used by search engines to
help determine page rank. However, people trying to scam the search
engines started adding bogus keywords to their pages to try to
increase their page rank. Search engines now focus on the content of
the pages, rather than the meta keyword tag, to determine page rank.
The keyword tags may still be used, but they are given little weight.

That saig, Google seems to be ranking your site rather well. A Google
search for 'valet parking tips', one of your keywords, returns a
valetpark.net page as the forth result.
Hope this information helps.

Your discountairportparking.net site has a high frequency of the
keyword 'parking' and may explain why this site is not indexed at
Yahoo or Dmoz where editors review the sites. With your other two
sites keyword repetition is more restrained.
The low page count on your sites 'may' also be an influencing factor

Hello again tman25,
First, let me make it clear that the responses to your question in the
comments section are not official answers by a Google researcher. The
comments are just free advice, and although they are supposed to be
helpful, they may or may not be useful to you.

Anyway, here is some more free advice :)
Google's search results are widely considered to be the most accurate
in the business, and they do not disclose the exact algorithm they use
to rank search results to the public. But one criterion that Google
can use to determine the quality of your site is the number of other
sites that link to it.

Let's look at the first result returned by a Google search for "valet
parking", which is "Providence Airport Valet Parking" at
www.airportvalet.com. Now lets check to see how many other sites on
the internet have links to www.airportvalet.com. To do this, let's
search for "link:www.airportvalet.com" on Google.
(search results here:://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=link%3Awww.airportvalet.com)
We see that Google knows about 32 sites that link to
www.airportvalet.com. Now some of these sites are actually just other
pages in the airportvalet.com domian, but some of them are not.

Now, lets see how many other sites on the Internet link to your site.
To do this, let's search for "link:www.valetpark.net". Oh-oh! Google
doesn't think that any other sites link to your page!

Although there are several factors that contribute to how highly your
page is ranked, the number of sites that link to your page is
generally considered to be an important one. This is sometimes known
as the "fan-in" algorithm. Also, if a site which Google considers to
be high-quality links to your page, then Google might consider your
page to be high-quality as well. For example, if the front page of
www.microsoft.com linked to your page, then your page ranking might to
go way up! If you look at the sites that link to www.airportvalet.com,
it appears that a couple of them are informational web pages at
universities, which problems helps them out.
Hope this advice was useful...

Google should perhaps charge for puuting up "premier links" -- high
visibility links that always turn up first in the list :)
