My tennis club has a set of keys that features a very large white,
rigid plastic (?) key tag. This is good because it means that they are
highly visible and less likely to be lost or inadvertently left in car
or bag. It's approx. 6 inches by 5 inches by 1/8 inch thick. We used
to write the relevant information straight onto it in texta.

After 15 years of use, this key tag finally broke and we're having a
lot of trouble replacing it with something equally practical. It will
need to take a lot of punishment and not be easily dismantled or
broken.

What we're looking for is either: some kind of tough key tag that will
will be able to contain a postcard size paper with the club
information on it and then have clear plastic/perspex/whatever fused
or welded or glued either side;
or
a solid piece of plastic etc that can have our club information
lasered or engraved onto it for a reasonable cost (~$100 Australian).
(I'd provide the club logo and information as an Illustrator EPS file
-- or other format).

Any thoughts on how best to approach this?
I've been in touch with several sign specialists and engravers and
no-one seems to have a solution.

Forgot to mention that both sides of key tag would have to be
engraved. Or the printed insert would be 2-sided.

That sounds good, redhoss. Is 'hot stamping' a specialist area? I
wonder why no-one I've spoken to has mentioned it. Would I be able to
get just the one piece of plastic of this size hot stamped or would
they have a minimum order requirement of 20 or 100 or something?

I once worked for an advertising company that did "hot stamping" on
plastic parts such as key chains. It is very durable and makes a nice
looking part.

I don't know. The company that I worked for is long gone. I did find these:
