I can provide the total number of Sporting goods stores in the United States.

This number includes:

General-line sporting goods stores 
Other specialty-line sporting goods stores 
Bicyle shops 
Golf shops 
Gun shops 
Ski shops 
Tackle shops 

I do not have a breakdown for each type of store.

I have the total number of Specialty-line Sporting Goods Stores .

These are establishments primarily engaged in retailing a maximum of
four lines of sporting goods, such as for camping, fishing, riding,
and other sports. These establishments may also sell clothing and
shoes appropriate for sporting activities, including uniforms.

I can also provide you with the number of stores there are for EACH of
the  following categories:

- Firearms, hunting equipment, & supplies 

- Fishing tackle, including bait 

- Camping & backpacking equipment & supplies 

- Bicycles, parts & accessories 

- Boats, canoes, kayaks, boat motors, parts & 

- Scuba & skin diving equipment 

- Water skiing, surfing, & sail boarding equipment 

- Tennis equipment 

- Golf equipment 

- Snow_skiing & snowboarding equipment 

- Exercise/fitness equipment
