I taught a section of "accelerated" general chemistry one summer, and while it may be approprite (or unavoidable) for some people, I don't recommend it. The main problem is that there is so much material to cover that the class has to move along very rapidly. This means that: 1) students have very little time to assimilate and "think over" new information. You have to learn it fast, because tomorrow you'll be learning something new. 2) if you get sick, or miss class for any reason, it is extremely difficult to "catch up" again, there just isn't time Many students find general chemistry to be challenging under any circumstances, and trying to learn it all fast is that much more difficult. |
