Southway Hotel at 8-14 Gillingham Street, off Wilton Road, very near
to the Victoria Station is a very budget hotel which I stayed as a
student many years ago. Their telephone numbers 02-78340643 and
02-78341503 do not work anymore. Can anybody who happens to be near
there confirm for me if the hotel is or is not still around or has
been replaced by another hotel name? If you could also give me their
working telephone number, I will give you a tip.

Dear pkuanko-ga,

The hotel no longer exists and has not been replaced. I telephoned
both numbers from the UK just to confirm, and they are indeed
unobtainable.

There is no current listing with British Telecom directory enquiries.

I checked with the Post Office address finder which lists all the
businesses and addresses in Gillingham Street, and 14 is not listed,
nor any other hotels in the street.

I see that on this page, which is Westminster Council (the local
authority), that there is reference to 2-14 Gillingham Street
receiving planning permission for ?Redevelopment for offices,
residential Class A uses.? It is probable that this has re-development
has been instigated.

There is no reference to the hotel on this current listing for Gillingham Street.

Sorry to disappoint you. I hope this answers your question. If it does
not, or the answer is unclear, then please ask for clarification of
this research before rating the answer. I shall respond to the
clarification request as soon as I receive it.
Thank you

Thank you for your answer. There is actually a listing of Southway
Hotel in your last reference, so I was hoping that it still exists,
but when I called the number, it was dead, hence my equiry. However I
have now managed to find a map of hotels around Victoria here
http://www.londontoolkit.com/accommodation/victoria_hotel_map.htm
This shows clearly there are no hotels in Gillingham Street anymore
(provided the map is up to date!!!), and also shows the other hotels
in the area.
