I am an exhibitor/occasional breeder of smooth standard dachshunds. I am not "professional," in the sense of being a commodity breeder or puppy mill. I think you mean "ethical," which is a bit different than "professional," in the purest sense of the word. I am a serious hobby breeder, attend our national breed specialty show, and have produced some nice champions thus far. I am very thorough with pedigree research and careful about why I breed in the first place. I screen potential pet buyers carefully and sell pets on spay/neuter contracts, only. Can you tell me more about yourself? Have you owned a dachshund in the past? Are you home during the day to train and socialize a new puppy? Where do you live? Are you okay with a spay/neuter contract for a pet? |

Yes indeed ethical is the better choice of words. Yes, I am a dachshund lover. I just lost my precious girl. We think she was 15 years old. We don't know for sure since we adopted her at 5 or 6. I nursed her through many years of bad health. She had to many diseases to number. I guess that is why I am so concerned about the breeder I get my next dog from. I still have my little boy. Since I raised him from a pup, I know he is 15 years old for sure. I am a dog groomer and live and work from home. I need to get a young pup as she will need to be accepting of my dog grooming customers coming and going. I live in California on a 3 acre piece of property. At this point I don't think I want to be breeding but would prefer discussing this topic at a later date. Thank you so much for your reply |

You do know the breed if you know you need to start socialization to strangers coming in the home when the dachshund is younger, rather than older :) I only sell pets on spay/neuter contracts. If you are interested in a quality pet, you can call the Dachshund Club of California and speak with the president, Don, who knows me. Ask him for Kristin's phone number for a smooth standard puppy, as he knows me. I am not allowed to give out personal contact info on this answer board, but find the Dachshund Club of California and go from there when you ask for my contact info.... Kristin |
