Question ID: 700990
Every time I turn on a 5150 I've been given to fix, I just see a dash
(blinking) on the upper left of the screen.
I've swapped hard drives, tried to boot from a CD, tried it without
hard drives, and reseated the memory.
Tried it with and without the battery and AC.

 Still, no results.

 Any ideas about this?

Hi pcventures...

This sounds like it's getting through the BIOS POST,
and is balking at the point where it's trying to
load the operating system. Does it look to you like
it's going through the BIOS POST, with the typical
messages about the system? Have you tried entering
the BIOS?

Greetings:

It won't even allow me to do an F2 - goes right to the blinking cursor.
Since posting the question, I found out on a different forum that
it's most likely a bad system board.

I've told the owner of the laptop to have Dell do a warranty repair.

Yeah, if you're not even seeing the BIOS, that's what I would
have told you, as well. A bad motherboard sounds right.

Best regards...
