Outlook 2000 crashes when I try to open it up. The splash screen
comes up, I can see my calendar open behind the splash screen, then
Outlook just quits. No error message of any kind.

Windows XP SP2
Outlook 2000 SP3 running as Internet Mail Only (I've applied all the
security upgrades over the years). I've installed Microsoft's backup
utility. I've also installed Slovak Technical Services attachment
add-in which allows me to see exe etc attachments. Both were
installed at least 2 years ago and have been running with no problems.
About 3 or 4 months ago I installed Cingular transfer software for my
phone, and I believe it put a sync button in Outlook. Also I?m using
Google desktop, which I also believe puts a button on Outlook.

Outlook 2000 was working just fine Friday morning. It was running
overnight, and I read and responded to email Friday morning. I shut
everything down and took the laptop to work, as usual. I do NOT
connect to an office LAN or email system. I am never connected at
work, but I use the calendar to track hours, etc.

I tried opening Outlook at work on Friday morning and it simply will
not stay up. I never get past the splash screen and showing the
calendar behind it.

I've tried without success:

1. Renaming Outlook.pst
2. Renaming archieve.pst
3. Renaming outcmd.dat
4. Adding a new profile
5. Repairing Outlook via control panel add/remove
6. Re-installing Outlook.

Before I uninstall Outlook completely and start over, I figured I?d
give Google a try. I?m willing to pay 20 dollars to anybody that
comes up with a solution that works.

Required solution:
Outlook 2000 opens up and I still have access to my calendar, email and addresses.

Thanks!

I don't expect this in any way to be a holistic solution, but perhaps
you could try to start Outlook with the '/safe' switch. This will
disable any third-party plug-ins, add-in extensions, preview pane and
toolbar customizations, if any, for the session.

Start->Run
Then type in 'outlook /safe' (without the quotes), and hit "OK".

Sorry, I forgot to include that I've tried starting Outlook with /safe. No joy.

There are also several other /switches that I've tried and none worked.

I found the problem:

When (months ago) I installed Cingular phone tools it added a sync
button to the toolbar on it's own line. Last week I installed a newer
version of Google Desktop, which added another toolbar line to
Outlook.

Evidently this stopped Outlook from finishing loading.

I un-installed Google and Outlook fired right up.

So I un-installed the phone tools add-in and com in Outlook,
re-installed Google and now all is well once again.

I'm going to close the question, as I've solved it myself.

Hopefully this will stay out on google answers so others can benefit.
