Question ID: 701565
I have a Treo 650 and use Palm Desktop to manage my appointments/contacts/etc.

I need to have the ability to let my administrative assistant also use
Palm Desktop but from her own computer, to update my appointments/etc.
So my Treo 650, my desktop, and her desktop, should all be in sync.

I have used the crude method for doing this by setting data paths for
both copies of Palm Desktop to the same shared network folder for my
computer and for hers, however this solution is unstable and prone to
data corruption if we both use Palm Desktop at the same time.

I have searched far and wide and do not believe there is a solution to
what is seemingly a simple problem.

The answer can't be using the data paths method. It can't be using a
solution that requires the use of MS Outlook. And as a bonus, I'd like
a solution that would allow for wirelessly syncing/pushing the changes
to the Treo 650 over the internet.

Does such a thing exist?

According to Palm:
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=5,E=0000000000261688340,K=14,Sxi=11,useTemplate=Case.tem,CASE=29452

Regarding the first part of the question ... would an online calendar
solution work...similar too a yahoo calendar? You can sync to it from
multiple computers and you can access it anywhere. It can push a
reminder (at least) to you when there is an event comming...you can
set the reminder to be far in advance...that way if say your assistant
changes your schedule your treo would get notification of it (though
your actual calendar would not change) and you could go online with
your treo to check for anychanges by browsing to your yahoo calendar
online...

You may also look into Oracle Calendar.

Re: the first link from palm..

"If you attempt to do a two-way synchronization with both computers,
your data can become confused."

There are two issues with this. The first is that my assistant would
have to physically dock my Treo to her computer. The second is she
would only be able to view. If she made changes and syncs, then I make
changes on my desktop and sync later on, it will clash. Or vice versa.

Palm use to offer a service called Mypalm.net that is now defunct that
handled this. There was another service too I believe that did a
similar thing. Basically web based calander but it pushed changes
directly to the Treo.

I contacted Intellisync but their solution Express Mail works only
with Outlook for this kind of functionality. At this point I am hoping
not to make that switch.

So, a web based solution would be good but only if it were capable of
pushing the changes to the actual calander app in the Treo as
sending/setting reminders of every little change via e-mail would be a
task.

I reviewed the Oracle solution, and do not think it is fitting. I
think it may be overkill and would probably look at Intellisync since
Oracle also requires using Outlook or their own client software.

Thanks for the help, but still hoping a better solution exists.

I am also a Treo 650 user, but don't use Palm Desktop or try to sync
from more than one computer. I understand that it would be easy to
corrupt your data file if you were both accessing it at the same time
on a shared network folder. But, what if you simply used Windows
RDP/terminal services instead? That way, she's using the application
on your computer but from her desktop. The easiest way would be to
simply keep the RDP connection active but minimized and whenever she
needs to change something she can use the connection to access Palm
Desktop on your machine. Just an idea, but if you're not a Windows
user I'm not sure what the alternative would be.

As for wireless synchonization via internet, I know it can be done and
have read about it on http://www.treocentral.com/. Search the forums
there.
