1. What is the approximate or average time from invention to
publication (for example in 1895 a paper could be published in 5 days
- the discovery of x-ray for example - in the 1950's - the discovery
of DNA - 52 days). Nowadays, due to journal rejection rates and other
factors, it can take 2 - 3 years for a discovery to be published. I
would like a reliable figure and a source.
2. Many journals charge researchers for publishing their research. I
would like to know an average number of articles that are published
for payment, either accross the industry, or in a few important
journals.
3. The amount of $ that US drug companies spend on "educating"
physcians (I believe it was recently put at $2 billion per annum.
4. The amount of $ that US drug companies spend of "marketing" to
physcians (I believe it was recently put at $20 billion per annum).
5. Average time it takes for an invention to move from academia to
practice, i.e. from invention to patient, once it makes its way
through the trial process.
6. Average number (or a reliable number in a few cases) of papers
(sheets of paper with data, not articles) a manufacturer has to submit
to the FDA in order to get drug approval. I believe this number runs
into the hundreds of thousands. I need a source and number.
7. Average number of journals, or journal articles that a practicing
physcian reads per week or per month or per year, whichever data is
available.
8. We are constantly hearing that all chronic diseases, as well as
many cancers (besides lung cancer) are on the rise. I would like some
figures which analzye the ibcreaisng morbidity (despite the increase
in life expectancy). i.e. I want figures which deal with quality of
life, rather than length of life. (I know the CDC statistics imply
that disease is on the decrease - but all other data seems to point
otherwise).
I dont need many sources for each question. As long as there are one
or two which provide the answer and are reliable, that is sufficient. |
