Hello!

I came across a research paper about two-three years ago that talked
about the limitations of the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) system.
Unable to locate it now.

It briefly talks about how the DOI is basically a 'page redirect' etc.
Would appreciate if you could locate this and/or related papers
talking about the limitation and shortcomings of the DOI system.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Rainbow-ga:

Thanks for your efforts. However, both these research papers talk
about the general structure of the DOI and how it can and is being
used, but do not list or talk about the limitations.

The one that I came across, I believed used the term 'page redirect'
in talking about the limitation of DOI. It said something along the
lines of: the DOI system works similar to the page redirect.

The DOI system basically points to the new location if the location of
the resource has been changed, but does not guarantee that the new
location has the exact same content (the onus for maintaining the
content remains with the content oweners). This is a big limitation...
that I am looking for in the research paper. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Pat79

Hi Pat79,

Is there anything you can remember about the site you found this
research paper on? What kind of website was it, a part of the name of
the website? Any additional details you can provide may help in this
search. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rainbow

Hello Rainbow-ga:

Unfortunately I do not remember much about where I saw the paper. But
I believe it was a html webpage.. not a PDF file or something. I wish
I could give some more information, but this is all I can remember.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Pat79-ga

After an extensive search, I was unable to locate the paper you are
looking for. Hopefully another researcher will have better luck.
