I want to know 1) What is the average return of domestic equity mutual funds since April 1, 1977 thru the end of 2005? 2) How many funds, out of the total that have track records dating back that far, have done better than 12.52%? |

Your best bet would be to take the S&P 500 and drop 50 basis points to account for fund fees. it would be very difficult to obtain what you are looking for with any accuracy. i mean the data is out there, the question relates to your definition of domestic equity mutual fund. What percentager of the fund must be in equities to suit your definition of equities. What is the max percetnage tjhat can be in foreign securities tobe considered domestic. Do ADR's count as domestic? As you see, its all about the definitions. Out of ease, I would justuse a proxy. |

Of the 492 dividend-adjusted Growth mutual funds in the FastTrack database since March 3/31/97, almost exactly half beat the 7.46% return of he S&P-500 dividend-adjusted. Only 68 beat the arbitrary return of 12.52% (which happens to be the exact return of Columbia Small Cap Growth Class Z) |
