Few Barcode generators that availabe by default on Linux
barcode - Creates barcodes in .ps format
kbarcode - barcode and label printing application for KDE

some lib's that can used to generate barcodes programmatically.

iec16022 - Generates 2d ISO/IEC 16022 barcodes (data matrix/semacode)
libgd-barcode-perl - Library to create barcode images (GD::Barcode)
