Rep. Bill Napoli,R-Rapid City, SD, said, "I believe the message from
Roe v. Wade is simple -- abortion on demand, abortion as a means of
birth control, abortion as a means to destroy human life -- however
you want to define it."

There's a BIG difference between "abortion on demand" and "as a means
of birth control" and abortion as a result rape, incest, or even
unplanned pregnancy. I've never believed that any more than a very few
women use abortion as a method of birth control. And for Napoli and
his ilk to toss that accusation so easily at women is insulting and
cruel.

I'm hoping to prove that it's also a false accusation.

My question: Do statistics exist on the different reasons stated for
women to seek abortions in the United States? If so, are they
relatively easily attainable? Reliable?

My price of $2.00 is for an answer to this question. If it turns out
to be yes, I'd certainly offer more for research into the results.

Dear K8,

Don't get mad, get even ;-)

Here are few statistics:
Wm. Robert Johnston , "Reasons given for having abortions in the United States"
http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/abreasons.html -
Christian/pro-life interpretation to the statistics, but it's there.

The statistics he quotes are here:
Reasons U.S. Women Have Abortions: Quantitative and Qualitative Perspectives
<http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/3711005.pdf>

web md:
Reasons Women Choose Abortion
<http://www.webmd.com/hw/womens_conditions/tw1169.asp>

In any case, please note this :
"# 54% of women having an abortion said they used some form of
contraception during the month they became pregnant.
# 90% of women who are at risk for unplanned pregnancies are using
contraception" (SOURCE: Abortion Statistics - World - U.S. -
Demographics - Reasons,
<http://womensissues.about.com/cs/abortionstats/a/aaabortionstats.htm>)

I hope this answers your question. Please contact me if you need any
clarification on this answer before you rate it. My search terms were:

Five stars. The perfect answer. I only wish I could afford to pay a good tip.
