Hello there,

I found a few resources with information on Enron's history.

Timelines in the Houston Chronicle:
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/special/enron/1127125
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/special/enron/nov01/1126890

Similar to the Houston Chronicle timelines, but with some links on the
right that provide additional info:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,39655,00.html

From the NYTimes.com, a fabulous section with lots of info
(registration required, but is free):
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/01/14/business/_ENRON-PRIMER.html

In that NYTimes.com section, be sure to check out this article, which
really helped me understand what was happening in terms of the
company's collapse. It is very long and focuses on Arthur Andersen's
role to some degree, but it is excellent:
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/10/business/10COLL.html

A graphical timeline, juxtaposed with the company's stock price:
http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/nationworld/sns-enron-chronology2-jpg.graphic?coll=sns-newsnation-headlines

From Enron's own website, but ending in July 2000:
http://www.enron.com/corp/pressroom/milestones/frameset.html

More specifically, with regard to the company's founding and history,
I found this on the BBC's site (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/static/in_depth/business/2002/enron/timeline/1.stm
):

"Enron was born in July 1985 when Houston Natural Gas merged with
Omaha-based InterNorth.

"Kenneth Lay, an energy economist who had held academic and government
positions throughout his career, became chairman and chief executive.

"His ambitions for the new company he had helped form went beyond the
business of piping gas.

"He wanted to see an energy trading revolution and place Enron at the
heart of it.

"By 2001 he appeared to be succeededing in his goal, having created a
multinational corporation employing thousands with a turnover of
billions of dollars."

Search strategy:

I looked on Google for:
enron history
enron timeline

I also used personal knowledge and memory of articles I had read in
the past.

Hope this answers your question fully.
