I need to know the Scientific name for the black lip mussel shell. It is not to be confused with the black mussel shell (it's scientific name is Mtyilus Edulis). The black lip mussel shell is found mostly in Asia and is exported a lot for shells on fashion costume jewelry. |

Howdy mdahan9-ga, The FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) Corporate Document Repository has a great document showing the molluscs used in aquaculture. They list their scientific names as part of the list, plus much more. You might be interested in looking at the document in detail. http://www.fao.org/documents/show_cdr.asp?url_file=//docrep/w2333e/w2333e05.htm Here is their listing for the "black-lip" "PTERIIDAE" family entry. "Pinctada margaritifera" The chart shows it to be, as you state, native to Asia. If you need any clarification, please feel free to ask. Search strategy: Google search on: "black lip" "Mytilus Edulis" ://www.google.com/search?q=%22black+lip%22+%22Mytilus+Edulis%22 Looking Forward, denco-ga - Google Answers Researcher |
