Without any notice, I was recently severed by my employer. While employed I had comprehensive medical benefits including a Long Term Disability (LTD) policy. Considering I have Parkinson's Disease, maintaining a LTD policy is important to me and my family. My employer is now telling me that the LTD Insurance portion of my benefits is not convertable and therefor is not offered under Cobra. Isn't this contrary to what the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (COBRA) gaurantees an employee......after a qualifying event (terminations with no notice) the right to maintain same Group Coverage for a period of time, often fully at employees expense. SO.....MY QUESTION: Doesn't the employer have to offer same LTD coverage (likely to cost employee up to 102% of group cost per person) for a period of time after termination ? | |
