I think the US should follow the example made in Iraq, where a dictator was murdering and oppressing his people in the same way. Wait a minute, Zimbabwe doesn't have oil so I guess the best bet is ignore it. |

murunbuchstansinger, Zimbabwe is under sanctions, despite the lack of oil. |

BTW, I feel awkward to be the one defending Mugabe, but he wasn't charged by anyone of having murdered a rebelious ethnic group with chemical weapons. He doesn't threaten any country in his region (unlike Saddam, attacking Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Israel on separate occasions). Should I carry on? |

I stand corrected. And then again, my first claim stands: Zimbabwe is under sanctions. |

The sanctions simply target "specifically identified individuals and entities in Zimbabwe." This is not against Zimbabwe per se. http://www.treas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/programs/zimbabwe/zimb.pdf Forgive my cynicism in connection with these sanctions, but they are open to interpretation and to circumvent them hardly seems difficult. Compare these to the sanctions against, shall we say, some other countries where mass murders have taken place. |

Murun, Thanks for the link to the site on sanctions. Real neatsy keen, and wow! - $500,000 fine if one ignores it - but where does one get a list of the bad people, or has the list even been made? (Don't bother to reply if you don't know.) Regards, Myoarin |

Not sure if this is comprehensive or up to date even, but here ya go: http://www.zimbabwedemocracytrust.org/outcomes/details?contentId=1683 I haven't read this in detail, but seems the same gist as that cited on the US Treasury website: http://www.treas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/programs/zimbabwe/charts/zimb_chart.pdf |
