I deleted folders.dbx and POP3uidl.dbx during an attempt to fix a
problem with Outlook Express 6 (Win XP SP2). Now I am unable to
restore my inbox and sent items back into OE and although I have been
able to restore all the other folders in my OE identity these are the
most important to me. I am aware of some shareware/freeware solutions
for creating .eml files from my inbox.dbx but I'd really like to
restore these folders back into OE as they are, can anyone help with a
way to "fool" the new folders.dbx into restoring inbox.dbx &
sentitems.dbx or otherwise restore them into OE?

spursjw...

In a properly functioning installation of OE, the two folders
Inbox.dbx and Sent Items.dbx should be recreated automatically
by the program, simply by shutting it down and re-opening it.

If that's not occurring, this may not work either, but the
next thing to try is simply to go into the default folder
for OE and create two new files (text files will do), and
rename them from Inbox.txt and Sent Items.txt to Inbox.dbx
and Sent Items.dbx, ignoring any prompts, and making sure
OE is shut down at the time.

The default folder should be around here:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourWindowsUsername\Local Settings\
Application Data\Identities\{some-long-number-with-dashes}\
Microsoft\Outlook Express\

When you next open OE, the folders should be there.

Try that, and let me know if it works...

P.S. Mind the exact spelling and capitalization I gave you.
