james...

A search for your pencil mostly turns up ads you have posted
in search of same. On the off chance you haven't already seen
it, there's an email address at the bottom of this page, which
Google cached on Dec 4, 2004, belongs to the person who created
the page. On the page is listed what seems to be his collection
of pencils. If the email address is still active, unlike the
page, perhaps you can obtain at least one from him:

Actually, it looks like that email address is still good.
It's also contained on this CV page on his current site:

If he no longer has the pencil(s), perhaps he can point
you to a supplier.

What is so special about this particular model/brand? Are there no
others that are close enough? please forgive my ignorance if there
aren't.

It is a charcoal paper pencil. It has a patented Nick N' Pull paper
peel and has very high quality charcoal, particularly the Hard
density. There are only a couple brands that of Charcoal Pencil that
are paper peel that I can find, Generals and another, but neither of
them equal the quality of the Blaisdell. A close friend of mine is
extremely adamant on getting this particular type of pencil for an
enourmous project he is planning on undertaking.
