Hello Blucken,
The price of hydrogen gas in steel cylinders costs about $100/kg.
Alternative Energy Action contributor David Doty prepared the
following analysis of hydrogen pricing in mid 2004, and updated it
last fall.
Excerpt:
?For the past half century, most cities of population over 100,000 in
industrialized nations have had dozens of industrial and research
users regularly purchasing pressurized hydrogen gas in heavy steel
cylinders containing about 0.6 kg H2 per cylinder. The price of this
hydrogen has been reasonably stable at about $100/kg plus cylinder
rental. One of the basic assumptions underlying the putative "hydrogen
economy" is that this cost can be reduced to a few dollars per
kilogram even while hydrogen production costs rapidly increase over
the next 30 years. There appear to be serious problems with this
assumption.?

Hydrogen Fuel costs.
?For the past 40 years, most cities of population over 100,000 in
industrialized nations have had dozens of industrial and research
users regularly purchasing 14 MPa (2000) psi hydrogen gas in heavy
steel cylinders containing about 0.6 kg H2 per cylinder. The price of
this hydrogen has been reasonably stable at about $100/kg (over fifty
times the cost of gasoline per unit energy), plus cylinder rental. The
current cost of a full tanker truck (15,000 gallons, or 4300 kg) of
liquid hydrogen (LH2) in most regions in the U.S. for high-volume
customers is about $6/kg One of the basic assumptions underlying the
putative "hydrogen economy" is that the cost of high-pressure hydrogen
gas can be reduced to a few dollars per kilogram for the individual
consumer even while the price of natural gas rapidly increases over
the next 30 years.?

How much does hydrogen fuel cost?
$15 for 100 cubic feet of hydrogen gas
?Just like gasoline, prices for fuel fluctuate with time. Gasoline
prices are measured in price per gallon. Hydrogen costs are measured
in price per 100 cubic feet. Currently, customers can expect to pay
approximately $15 for 100 cubic feet of hydrogen gas.?
