I own a hair salon as my father and grandfather did. Both are
deceased and both operated in Boston - although my grandfather started
as a barber in Sicily. My dad's business was very well-known in
downtown Boston in the 1940's and 1950's. He did a lot of print
marketing, especially in newspapers. I want to puzzle together
visuals of our story using ads, articles, etc. He was probably in
trade magazines also, though I'm not sure those publications are still
in existence. I know I can use microfilm in the public library
system, but I need a research plan and other resources.

misterz123-ga,

There are several resources available for searching old newspapers and
other print media from the 1940's and 1950's (including the ads).
However, there's certainly no guarantee that your family's shop will
be mentioned in them.

Did you want to give us the name of the shop, so we can search some of the sources?

Or do you just want to know about the services themselves. so you can
search them on your own?

Let us know how we can best assist you.

misterz123-ga,

Just checking in. I hope you've gotten an email notification about
this message...they haven't been 100% reliable as of late, I'm afraid.

Anyway, take a look at my earlier note, above, and let me know how
you'd like to proceed.
