Have you considered using one of the free online services that track
portfolios?
You could make a fictitious portfolio that represents the proportions
of each stock in the index, and the portfolio tracker would update the
price of that portfolio continuously with the market prices of the
underlying stocks.
CNN has such a service (and if you have an AOL account, you are
already registered for it), as does Yahoo.
They both allow fractional shares to be input, so this seems perfect
for your purposes.
