I'm looking for a very simple and clear example to give my students explaining the Gold versus Silver controversy that raged in the US in the late 1800s. I have checked out numerous websites and have several textbooks, but none of the examples appear crystal clear to me, let alone to my 11th grade students. I'm looking for silver vs gold comparisons, and the explanation behind the "Crime of 1873." Also, how exactly would putting more silver into the economy help a poor farmer and hurt a wealthy banker or investor? I am familiar with the website of http://www.micheloud.com/FXM/MH/Crime/index.htm. This is close to what I am looking for, but there is some trouble with the translation. Thank you. Lee |
