Here are my sources for calculations: http://www.parliament.uk/commons/lib/research/rp2006/rp06-009.pdf http://www.statistics.gov.uk/STATBASE/tsdataset.asp?vlnk=229&More=Y http://data.bls.gov/cgi-bin/cpicalc.pl yahoo finance according to the UK price indexes (I also made some adjustments for October instead of January, and march instead of January): 5.25 pounds is jan 1933 is worth 18.30 pounds in oct 1964 (that s $51.26 back then), and is worth 776 pounds in March 06 (that s $453 dollars) According to US price index, $4000 in Oct 64 is worth about $25,536 in March 06 |
