rose33...

Why not just play with the rulers on the top and left side
of a standard Word document and set the size of the document
to 3 x 5 with appropriate margins, and then save the result
as a new template?

Then just make sure to set your printer to 3 x 5 when you go
to print them.

Let me know where this takes you...

Hi rose33,

You can use Word. Go to page setup and select the paper tab. There
you'll find a pull down menu where you can select the paper size,
index cards should be on the list. When you are finished, the margins
in your work area will change to match the size of the index cards.

Will that work for you?

If you are fairly comfortable with PowerPoint (so formatting features
don't interfere with your work), it can work a lot like writing with 3
x 5 cards: you can see them laid out in sequence, move them around,
etc.

to : sublime1-ga, I used rulers before. The are a good ideat. thank you anway.

To. perhaps-ga. Power Point is a good idea, I did not hear about it. I
am not famiiar with power-point, I tried it and printed a couple of
cards. The text did not print in the middle of the card 4x6, and a few
end lines did not show up. My printed is a LaserJet-6L and has two
slots one is adjiastable for envelopes. Is there a way to save my
work all in one file.insted of using save as..in file for each one.
I found this software a few months ago, but I was not able to try it,
although they say it is possible;

Do you think that I can do about the same things of what they say when
using powerpoint? I do not know what you mean by seeing them aid out
in sequence and moving them around. Feel free to accept to answer
this question any time. Thanks.

Why don't you buy Avery Brand Notecards?

In Microsoft word, under envelopes and lables there should already be
a selection for this product. No muss, no fuss.

Microsoft Word Help Files - Index Cards and Other Small Media

Guidelines
Use only cards and small media that meet the printer's paper-size
specifications. For specifications, see the reference guide that came
with the printer.

Do not exceed the In-tray capacity: Up to 30 cards.

Preparing to print
Raise the printer cover.

Slide the paper guide to the left.

Raise the Out tray.

Place the cards, with the side to be printed on facing down and the
short sides pointing towards the printer, in the In tray and to the
right. Push the cards into the printer until they stop.

Lower the Out tray.

Slide the paper guide firmly against the edge of the cards.

Lower the printer cover.

Printing
Open the Printer Properties dialog box.

Click the Paper/Quality tab, and then specify the following print settings:

Size is: Appropriate paper size

Type is: Appropriate paper type

Select any other print settings that you want, and then click OK.

HI all. Thank you sublime1-ga, hummer-ga, roxrox-ga, and
tlspiegel-ga. I used Microsoft Word page set up proposed by many of
you to prepare many index cards for today?s PhD general Exam ? which I
have fortunately passed. There was no index cards choice in Word, but
I used the custom choice, where you can specify the size you want.
Thanks to perhaps-ga for the good idea of using PowerPoint, but
because I am not familiar with it, I could not use it. I?ll try it
again in future. Thanks to tlspiegel-ga, but my printer is different
? LaserJet 6L ? it is not so sophisticated. Thanks all you all helpful
and nice.
I?ll increase the fee and use for another question.
I know that there is software which does many things with index cards
(organize them etc) like that offered by
http://www.ndxcards.com/versionhistory.asp -. This company advertises
that those interested can try it for a month, but trying it in advance
was not possible. If see a similar please let me know, I will renew
this ad.
