This has bugged me for years.

I think I was about eight when I saw this movie so the movie dates
from about 1989 or before.

I don?t remember much, except for at the end the evil prince (or boy)
was standing by a well with an older man. Either the boy?s heart is
removed, or he just bleeds, but from a drop of blood comes a white
bird that looks like dove.

I also remember earlier in the film a man with a beard, very much a
god like archetype, appearing over a market, the stall had apples in
it.

I think the plot was basically about some boys that were transported
into another world, ended up saving the place.

But that?s it. I would like to know the title of the movie, rewatch it
so the images stop hunting me!
