I heard a statement recently that when they had completed Mumtaz
Mahal's tomb (the Taj Mahal) they could not find her body; the workers
had accidently discarded it with construction trash. So she I know a person
from India and he insists that indians know that her body is not now
in the Taj, and never has been. He says that few outsiders know it and
that it is not promoted by Indian government because of the potiential
affect on tourism.

I suspect that you aren't going to get a definitive answer for your
fifty bucks. There seem to be various versions of what happened to
Mumtaz Mohal's body after her death - one that she was cremated, and
her ashes eventually transferred to the Taj; another that she was
buried elsewhere temporarily and later re-interred in the Taj.
However, over and above any mystery regarding Mumtaz's remains, there
seems to be controversy about the structure itself, which some Indian
historians and archeologists claim was originally a Hindu temple,
appropriated and embellished in the time of Shah Jehan.

That sounds like a Hindi urban legend. If you want to believe it, you
will enjoy this blog:

For those not familiar with religious relationships in India, there
are Hindus who are animostic towards Muslims, claiming that mosques
were built on the sites of Hindu temples, which in some cases is
probably true. (Many early Christian churches were built on the site
of Greek and Roman temples or converted the temples to churches.)

This site gives the standard description of her death an interrment:

The fact that the actual tombs are in a room below the main room with
the dome may have a bearing on the question.
